It’s Thanksgiving on the Island and once again Locke proves that simply being “special” won’t save your life!
I hope everyone is having a happy holiday week! For me, Thanksgiving is about spending time with my family, enjoying good food, and playing lots and lots of video games. Even if you don’t live in the states I hope you can enjoy those things, too. Happy Holidays everybody!
Dentists. Am I right? Halloween on the Island must be amazing. What with the dead things lying all around, the ghostly pirate ship, and things going tikka-tikka in the night. I can imagine Hurley would want to show Ben some of the things he probably missed growing up on a secret island.
Happy Halloween, you guys! Be safe and watch out for monsters!
Back from the dead! I was pretty sick last week and could not get a comic done. Now I’m full of sweet sweet antibodies and ready to dig in for winter!
This one is just about having fun. Sure, there are probably some undertones you could take from it–and yes, I considered naming this “brokeback island” for all of 2 seconds–but mostly it’s about friendship. The Jack/Sawyer moments were always among my favorites in the series. I’d hoped that at some point before the end they would come to have more of a Luke/Han relationship and just be pals. Too bad it didn’t happen on TV. Lucky for us there are fan comics! High five!
Awww dude. Okay the Cheech-Smokey joke was too easy, but it had to be done. Odds are pretty good that savvy Dharma scientists specializing in botany and conducting experiments on a secret, unpoliced tropical island during the seventies would be cultivating a crop of stuff that would make Nancy Botwin proud. Come on, all those plants in the Orchid? Please.
So Cheech comes to the island to visit the new man in charge, stumbles on to some wild Dharma sativa, starts trippin balls, fashions a Roger bong, and well, you get the picture.
I’m sure if Mikhail had gotten more screen time we would have found that good ol’ Giacchino-fueled-tuggin’-at-the-heart-strings empathy LOST is so good at even for him. What he did to Charlie is dastardly, but I still love him.
I realize I’m playing around with the timeline a little, but it’s silly, and technically possible (see s3e23 “Through the Looking Glass Part 2″).
The last 3 panels were originally intended as a bonus follow-up strip for later, but I liked the way it played right after the first part, so I put it all together! Yay!
Sawyer is Batman: A Thesis by Me
The parallels between James Ford and Bruce Wayne are pretty rad. Each uses his origin to create another identity to help him deal with his emotional trauma. Just as Batman is the alter ego to Bruce Wayne, Sawyer is James’ alter ego. Both of them are constantly struggling with losing themselves to their alternate identity. Each chooses to be this other person and spends most of his life as him. In the final panel Sawyer might as well be saying, “Who the hell is James Ford?”
One could argue that they differ in their outcomes. Obviously Batman fights crime while Sawyer commits it, right? Actually, this is another similarity! During his formative years, Bruce Wayne lives like a criminal and becomes a master of his craft in order to better know his parents’ killer. He is eventually able to use that training to fight crime. James chooses the life of crime and becomes a master confidence man for the same reasons. We are just introduced to him before he has completed this phase of his training. The fact that James eventually becomes head of Dharma security and later a police detective in his afterlife is evidence that he and Bruce Wayne share similar destinies.
Who knows. Perhaps Sawyer leaves the island and becomes the crafty vigilante known only as Conman, swindler of con artists!
Time for another LOST favorite! When Hurley popped the clutch on Roger’s Dharma van and the Three Dog Night 8-track fired up it was AMAZING.
I was especially happy for Sawyer. He and Kate had just barely escaped from Hydra Island where he’d spent the entire first half of the season. It was so nice to see him smiling again and to have part of the gang back together. When they all piled into the van with their booze, good tunes, and huge smiles it was just awesome.
Some people have galaxies far far away. Others have middle earth. And some of us have an island.
Coming to grips with the end of LOST is difficult to say the least. I recently had the opportunity to fly to Los Angeles and experience a live musical presentation by Michael Giacchino followed by a screening of “What They Died For” with most of the cast and crew, a bunch of other Losties, and one of my best friends. It was a time I’ll never forget. And in a way, getting on the plane at LAX to return home felt like a goodbye.
This collection of comics is my love letter to LOST. Do not fret. Although the show is ending, LOST in Comics will return to its regular schedule next week. In the meantime, if you’ve got a desktop that needs decorating, please enjoy this wallpaper.
In honor of FCBD this is a special Hulk-sized edition of LOST in Comics!
This one is dedicated to my friend Zach, without whom this site would not work so nice. He’s the biggest Hulk fan I know and he just had a birthday.
So happy birthday Zach and happy Free Comic Book Day everyone!
I wanted something fun to think about every time we do a rewatch and we hit that season 2 patch of previously’s where Michael just screams at us. I think this will do the trick.
Once again Hurley echoes our own sentiments and Desmond shows up because I really just had to draw some Desmond.
