I love the Swan. I wish there was a magic resort somewhere in the world that you could stay at with rooms modeled after Dharma stations. I would always request the Swan. It should make you hit the button every 108 minutes, too. Yeah. Awesome.
If you’re just tuning in, here’s the story so far.
Desmond finally reaches the Island! I had a lot of stuff to cram into this one. I really just wanted the page to look pretty.

Hey look! It’s a new Desmond t-shirt! “The Constant” deserves special treatment, so I gave my original comic a tune-up for this illustration. I’m REALLY happy with how this turned out. I think it will be my new favorite shirt!
Check out a bigger version on my tumblr.
Ooh, also, if you want a 15 x 15″ fine art print on velvet cotton paper, I also have some of those available for $22 shipped in the US ($30 international). Just email me at jj (at) lostincomics (dot) com
Ominous! We’re finally on the the Island in one page. Things should really be picking up steam as we get closer to Comic-Con. If everything lines up, I’ll have a handful of finished Desmond and Penny books with me in San Diego!
I also want to say thanks again to everyone whose ordered LOST in Comics tees! It warms my icy robot heart to see you guys sporting these.
Okay, so I moved the setting of this conversation between Des and Penny from the stadium to opening day of Widmore’s boat race and I added a cranky Widmore on a kingly throne. It gave it more of a fairy tale vibe to me.

Just realized it’s been a few weeks since the last update. Been a little buried by other projects. I did manage to pop off some new arts in the interim.
Checky check them on my tumblr:
1966 Batgirl & Batman for my wife for our upcoming anniversary.
A little tribute to Flapjack. I miss him.
I don’t think it’s very safe to run with your mouth agape like that. I tried it in 2nd grade and busted my permanent front teeth on the blacktop. Traumatizing. But you know Des, always living dangerously.
There is a quick little process post about the creation of this page over on my tumblr.
Speaking of busted teeth, have you read Raina Telgemeier’s book Smile? Our family just adores Raina. I bought it for my little girl, but everyone in the house has read it and loves it. If I could I would give this book to every tween I meet! As of this posting it is only $6.24 on Amazon. Here’s a trailer for Smile (yay video!):
Libby will give you stuff you want, but she’ll make sure you feel bad about taking advantage. Like when she gives you kisses then reminds you she’s crazy.
There’s a lot going on with this page. I have to admit I was a little nervous with it being a children’s book. I almost tossed out the joke, but the story was due for a laugh. Still, I had it passed off by a 2nd grader and a 4th grader just to be sure. Happy Valentine’s Day, my loves!
Desmond gets his call to action and so ends chapter 1 of the Desmond and Penny fairy tale.
I had a little break from the comic (2 whole weeks!), but it wasn’t a fun, leisurely break. My other professional life, while still in the realm of art, has gone in directions that I think most career-minded folks would be thrilled with–more responsibility, more power, higher title, etc–and I am good at it, but it doesn’t jive with my own aspirations. I would honestly be oh so happy to sit in a room and draw this all day so long as it paid the bills. Sounds like a goal for 2011!
My art is like therapy to everything else going on. So know that when I miss a week, it kills me. I look forward to making comics more than anything! Thanks for all your support. You’re the best!
I’m not really straying away from the canon with this story otherwise I’d have so much fun depicting Desmond’s days in the military. By the way, did you ever notice that Desmond’s sexiness directly corresponds to the length of his hair? It’s true. Happy holidays!!
