…and now for something entirely different! Time to kick off my LOST children’s books series. Desmond and Penny’s story is the first of many fairy tales planned and once it’s done we should get a nice book out of it. Whenever time allows, I will update more frequently. I hope you’ll come along for the ride with me!
It’s Thanksgiving on the Island and once again Locke proves that simply being “special” won’t save your life!
I hope everyone is having a happy holiday week! For me, Thanksgiving is about spending time with my family, enjoying good food, and playing lots and lots of video games. Even if you don’t live in the states I hope you can enjoy those things, too. Happy Holidays everybody!
Superman has become an even bigger lostie since the last time we saw him.
So…This one time I was making drawings for kids at an event at my local comic shop when this cute little boy walked up to our table to ask for a drawing. These are the best people ever to take a commission from!
You can imagine my disappointment when he asked the much more talented, much more friendly, artist sitting next to me, Jess Smart Smiley, if he would draw Superman for him. Jess was in high demand that day and needed to finish a drawing for another kid. This little boy patiently waited for Jess. In the mean time, I was sitting there with nothing to do. I began drawing up what I thought would be a nice Superdood for the little guy.
I was nearly finished when Jess finally finished his other drawing (Jess talks a whole lot while he draws so it takes him a long time, unlike me who often has nobody to talk or draw for–sad). So Jess goes, “Alright ya little whippersnapper, whaddya want again?”
The kid takes a deeeeep breath and says, “I want you to draw Superman…..but not like that” as he points at my drawing.
Devastated. All the other artists and nerds there pointed at me and laughed. Jess, too. Laughed and pointed with one hand while drawing what I’m sure was an awesome Superman with his other. I couldn’t really see. Through the tears. Superman sucks.
A lot of people are discovering (or rediscovering) LOST for the first time. Why should Batman be any different!
When I’m sketching I usually draw goofy superheroes. It’s no secret that I love Batman, but I couldn’t leave out Jim Gordon. He’s my favorite!
Speaking of rediscovering LOST, my friends Matt and Justin have an awesome rewatch blog at wehavetogoback.net. You should follow along with them!
This one is dedicated to my pal Bill who draws Batman better than anyone I know!
Of course prints of this comic are available, but there is also a print sans the LOST reference available in my etsy shop.
Dentists. Am I right? Halloween on the Island must be amazing. What with the dead things lying all around, the ghostly pirate ship, and things going tikka-tikka in the night. I can imagine Hurley would want to show Ben some of the things he probably missed growing up on a secret island.
Happy Halloween, you guys! Be safe and watch out for monsters!
Back from the dead! I was pretty sick last week and could not get a comic done. Now I’m full of sweet sweet antibodies and ready to dig in for winter!
This one is just about having fun. Sure, there are probably some undertones you could take from it–and yes, I considered naming this “brokeback island” for all of 2 seconds–but mostly it’s about friendship. The Jack/Sawyer moments were always among my favorites in the series. I’d hoped that at some point before the end they would come to have more of a Luke/Han relationship and just be pals. Too bad it didn’t happen on TV. Lucky for us there are fan comics! High five!
Here’s one for the kids! The Walt at Fault cast matches up pretty nicely with the Dennis the Menace gang–Ben as Henry (Benry!), Juliet as Alice, and Tom (Mr. Friendly!) as grumpy old Mr. Wilson. Some original Walt at Fault strips are in the works, but it’s a kick to riff on Ketcham’s gags.
This particular episode evolved from a Dennis the Menace daily that originally ran in newspapers on 05/18/1954.
So…..you’re going to have to be pretty familiar with The Big Bang Theory to really appreciate this. If you’re not then what are you waiting for! Familiarize yourself! It’s a great show.
You know what, though? For a show that makes so many references to nerd pop culture, I can’t remember a single reference to LOST in any of the episodes. Lots of BSG, Doctor Who, and Babylon 5 (man Sheldon really hates that show), but no LOST that I can recall. Weird, right? If I’m mistaken please call me on it.
Anyway, I love the show and if in some paradoxical sideways world or sometime in Desmond’s future should he and Penny happen to move to Pasadena and take up residence across the hall from a bunch of brainy geeks, well, that’d be alright by me.
Awww dude. Okay the Cheech-Smokey joke was too easy, but it had to be done. Odds are pretty good that savvy Dharma scientists specializing in botany and conducting experiments on a secret, unpoliced tropical island during the seventies would be cultivating a crop of stuff that would make Nancy Botwin proud. Come on, all those plants in the Orchid? Please.
So Cheech comes to the island to visit the new man in charge, stumbles on to some wild Dharma sativa, starts trippin balls, fashions a Roger bong, and well, you get the picture.
When Michael started building the raft I seriously hated the idea. I thought it was ridiculous for a number of reasons. Not only do we know that it won’t work, but Michael would be taking Walt away from the island–one of the most mysterious characters. And then there’s Jin and Sawyer. Sawyer! My favorite character leaving the island? Baloney!! Sure, let Michael go. He causes collateral damage wherever he goes!
Then what makes this a favorite moment? The music. Giacchino’s “Parting Words” composition is amazing. AY-MAY-ZING! It gives me goosebumps, my chest tightens, and I get all teary. What a sissy right? Whatever! I’ve seen Sawyer cry and he’s a tough guy cowboy! So thanks to Giacchino I love that stupid raft.
